Abstract: | This paper focuses on the development of narrative skills in the acquisition of Greek as a first language. More specifically, it investigates the means for expressing the movement of narrative time and setting up the foreground of the narrative. Children four, seven and ten years of age, as well as adults were asked to tell a story based on a silent animated film. The analysis reveals that children show a preference for past anchored narratives where morphological marking plays a crucial role in the movement of narrative time. Adults on the other hand produce mainly present tense narratives where movement of narrative time is achieved through lexical aspect. |
