Fotini Simistira received the Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Greece in 1996.

She joined the Institute for Language and Speech Processing (ILSP / R.C. "Athena") in 1997. She has participated in various National and E.U. research and technology projects, e.g. "Logonostisi" (a multimedia program for teaching Greek to repatriated children from the former Soviet Union, who speaks Greek as a second language), "Logotopos" (series of lessons for teaching Greek, based on the curriculum of the first year of high school, established by the Pedagogical Institute), " The Greek language - The adventures of words " (an educational software for the diachronic and synchronic study of the Greek language, addressed to pupils of secondary education), "Strategic plan for the viable development of North Greece" (a multimedia program aiming at the short and popular updating of already existing businessmen and prospect investors as well as the general public about the strategic plan for the viable development of North Greece), "Filoglossia" (series of lessons for learning Greek as a foreign language, supported by English and addressed to beginners with little or no previous knowledge of Greek), "MYTHE" (language learning environment for young children around the transition-to-literacy. The MYTHE platform is used for mother tongue and second language learning and supports three languages, English, Greek and Dutch), "ECDL Basic – Version 4.0, Windows & Office 2000", "ECDL Basic – Version 4.0, Windows XP & Office 2002", "ECDL Advanced – Version 4.0, Office 2002", "An optical handwritten recognition system of mathematical symbols - SAMS" (a recognition system of handwritten mathematical symbols and graphemes), "Panoptis" (system of video text detection).

She currently pursues her PhD studies at the National Technical University of Athens in the area of “Online handwritten recognition of mathematical expressions” under the supervision of Prof. George Carayannis (NTUA).
