The objective of the LE-SIMPLE project was to build harmonized semantic lexicons for 12 European languages, to be used in different Human Language Technology applications.
The first phase of SIMPLE aimed at the design and implementation of a general model for the encoding of a large amount of semantic information, including ontological typing, argument structure and domain categorisation.
In the second phase, this model was used for the addition of the semantic layer to a subset of the existing morphological and syntactic layers of the computational lexicons that were developed in the framework of the Parole project. Thus, the semantic lexicons, comprising 10,000 semantic units for each language, have been built in a uniform way for the 12 Parole languages (Catalan, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish).
Following the completion of the project, a subset of the lexica (composed of 300 semantic units and the relevant morphological and syntactic units) is available to the research community through the project web site: http://www.ub.es/gilcub/SIMPLE/simple.html.
