The project developed a system for the multilingual search and retrieval of digitised images residing in geographically remote databases, by relying on information detected in the images’ accompanying captions. The system supported six languages, namely English, French, German, Greek, Italian and Spanish, and enabled search personalisation based on user profiling. Furthermore, a high security mechanism as well as the appropriate distribution of images guaranteed the observance of IPR-related issues. The project offered a gateway for e-Commerce in the specific area of image distribution.
