The LangTERRA project represents ILSP’s strong commitment to continuously reinforcing its excellence and strengthening its capacities.
To formulate its evolution strategy in the changing landscape of language technologies, ILSP has considered a set of key research directions that are expected to play a significant part in shaping the future of language technology:
- Multimodal communication
- Multimedia processing
- Language learning and learning disabilities
- Text mining
In the framework of the above research areas and in view of enhancing ILSP’s capacities and competitiveness, the LangTERRA projects will employ a set of tools and activities. More specifically it involves a considerable mobilization of ILSP’s resources. It involves networking with fourteen (14) world-class research entities from nine (9) countries throughout Europe. Furthermore, it involves the recruitment of experienced researchers in the priority research areas, the organization of events (open days, conferences and workshops), and the acquisition of state-of-the-art research equipment.
LangTERRA will catalyse ILSP’s performance on the selected priority research areas and will drastically increase ILSP’s overall capacity and potential to excel at a European level in the domain of language processing and in closely related fields.
In addition, LangTERRA will have significant impact to the wider socio-economic environment through the active involvement of important actors and stakeholders from the public and private sector. Moreover, through the active participation of researchers from the Balkan countries, the project will seek for further synergies and expand its impact to the wider Balkan area, thus providing additional opportunities for their integration and networking into the European research.
