| Lingu@net was developed over the last 15 years with support from the EU (in 1998-2001, 2003-2006 and 2009-2011). In 2007 it was awarded the MERLOT prize for being ‘exemplary on-line learning material for all disciplines’ and in 2008 Lingu@net Europa was awarded the European Commission’s Gold prize in the "European Lifelong Learning Awards for quality in mobility".
The broad aim of the Lingu@network project is to create a dynamic interactive website in support of multilingualism, involving users in the provision of resources for language learning and in the creation of user networks. Based on the tried and tested Lingu@net architecture, this will add a new dimension to what already exists, making it more effective and relevant in terms of contemporary needs and current use of the Internet.
Specific objectives will be
- To develop the necessary tools and architecture to facilitate user involvement
- To update the Lingu@net cataloguing system to include wider input of resources
- To support the creation of user groups
- To extend the range of high quality content to include user generated content and non-pedagogic resources of interest to language users
- To give greater profile to less widely taught languages, not least in “real life” situations
The project website will be available in the following lanuages: Arabic, Basque, Bulgarian, Catalan, Chinese, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, Galician, German, Greek, Hindi, Hungarian, Icelandic, Irish, Italian, Japanese, Latvian, Lithuanian, Maltese, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Slovene, Spanish and Swedish.
