The objectives of the NERC project were the preparation of a European infrastructure on language resources. Specifically, it aimed at:

• setting up a European Corpora Network,
• producing a survey of the existing resources in the various European countries,
• suggesting short, medium and long-term actions in the field of corpora,
• investigating the legal aspects of the issue in the European countries,
• proposing a common linguistic annotation schema for written resources.

This project was the first of a series of projects on language resources. It set the basis for the production of harmonised resources at a European level, and its main objectives were further pursued by the projects MLAP-PAROLE, Parole and Simple.
