The CALL system for learning Greek as a second language is entitled A knight in the castle of words. It is the “sequel” of the “A knight in the castle of letters”, and addresses Turkish speaking children in the 5th and 6th grade of primary minority schools of Western Thrace. It shares the same guiding principles and objectives with the Knight in the castle of letters. The curriculum is nevertheless different: it covers the intermediary and advanced level of language proficiency. The Knight in the castle of words differs also in complexity and in the available navigation options. It comprises 16 units and some extra features enabling children to gain awareness –and the corresponding metalinguistic terms- of basic syntactic structures of Greek. It also includes educational and entertaining games and some old familiar tales, like The Princess and the Pea, The Little Red Riding Hood, etc, adapted in blank verses by Eugene Trivizas.

The CALL systems A knight in the castle of letters and A knight in the castle of words are issued in a box containing two CD-ROMs and a user manual. They are incorporated in the minority schools curriculum and they are used in evening and summer courses in Thrace, in the Support Centres of the “Education of the Muslim Minority Children Programme” and in Greek language courses for immigrant children in Athens and many other cities of Greece.
