Within the framework of the project “Construction and Weighting of 12 exploratory-detection tools (criteria) of learning difficulties” (MIS 109940) with the contractor of the University of Patras (EPEAEK ΙΙ, Action 1.1.3 "EARLY AND SYSTEMIC DETECTION, EVALUATION AND SUPPORT OF STUDENTS WITH LEARNING PROBLEMS, PROBLEMS IN ARTICULATION AND SPEECH AND SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS") ILSP/ “Athena” RC took the Subproject 5 “Construction and Weighting of 2 tools and software for automated research of special learning difficulties in production, and processing and cognition of written and oral speech for students B’ – D’ of Primary school and E’ of Primary school – B’ of High school.

In the framework of this subproject LAMDA was developed, a software for automated identification of learning difficulties in written and spoken language. It includes exercises like games which are performed by students on the PC without supervision and provides a school performance profile of each student.

Purpose of LAMDA is the automated detection of learning difficulties in speech (written and spoken). Automated means that the process does not require staff Intervention nor does it require special education or training, because the process software is fully controlled by the Software PC, both for exercise assignment and results publication. Detection means that there is no complete clinical evaluation or diagnosis but only a simple profile of areas of particular student inability in order to identify children who probably need furthermore evaluation and also special educational support.

LAMDA is very simple in installation and use, and provides useful results within a school hour. It can be used within the school, in the Centers for Diagnosis, Evaluation and Support (KEDDY (Diagnostic, Evaluation, Support Centers)) and in other institutions responsible for identifying learning difficulties. Fields under consideration:

  • Speed and accuracy of image and word recognition
  • Historical and grammatical spelling
  • Oral and written comprehension
  • Morphological syntax: complete sentences, proportions
  • Vocabulary: image selection, definitions (+)
  • Attention range (letters memory)
  • Non verbal intelligence: sequences (*), matrices
  • Musical skills: play rhythm (*)

(*) only for children B’-D’ of Primary School

(+) only for children E’ of Primary School to B’ second grade of High School
