Abstract: | In the last years pronunciation has acquired renewed focus and developing pronunciation skills is now considered an important component of communicative competence. Within Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL), pronunciation assessment and the provision of pertinent feedback have become more or less standard features. In this paper (a) we shall present the features and technologies deployed for the acquisition of Greek phonetics in a courseware for English-speaking adult learners of Greek and (b) based on the limitations of the courseware regarding pronunciation assessment, we shall describe a scoring algorithm for automatic pronunciation assessment of Modern Greek which may deal with these shortcomings. |
