"The Greek language - The adventures of words" is an educational software for the diachronic and synchronic study of the Greek language, addressed to pupils of secondary education. It was designed and developed by ILSP / R.C. "Athena" for the Ministry of Education - Pedagogical Institute within the framework of EPEAEK - 11a project.

The aim of this educational software is to help the pupils:

• follow the evolution of the Greek language
• become conscious of the adventures of words
• examine the stratification of vocabulary
• realise the social and geographic diversifications
• locate the elements which constitute the multiformity of language at a synchronic level

This educational software is developed on the basis of the following five thematic units:

1. History of the Greek language
2. Vocabulary of the Greek language
3. Word meaning
4. Linguistic varieties
5. Language expression

Each unit comprises several chapters, which are presented in a unified structure. Each language phenomenon approach is realised in a variety of ways (introduction to the broader thematic area to which it belongs, text-based approach, questions of an exploratory nature, variety of activities).

This programme gives the teacher the opportunity to be informed of the performance of his/her pupils as well as to add his/her own exercises.
