The computer software “A knight in the castle of letters” and “A knight in the castle of words” constitutes a complete course for learning Greek, which covers the beginner, intermediary and advanced level. It is issued in a box including two CD-ROMs and a user manual

General Characteristics

  • The software is designed according to the logic of free navigation. Access to information is based on close links between the texts (with voiceovers), the English translation, the exercises, the grammar, the bilingual dictionary and the encyclopaedic information.
  • It requires the participation of the student.
  • Each unit is accompanied by ‘tests’, i.e. grammar, phonological and lexical exercises using many different approaches.
  • It includes translations of the texts in English.
  • It includes a Greek-English dictionary of 4,200 words and phrases. Each word or phrase is followed by examples of usage, with a translation in English, grammar information, spelling, hyphenation, derivative and compound words, illustrations and, finally, the word or phrase heard in Greek. All the words that appear in the software are entries in the dictionary.
  • It includes four games (hangman, battleships, noughts and crosses and master mind) that help the student to exercise his/her ability to think, concentrate and memorise.

With this method the child gradually becomes familiar with the Greek language, learns how to use the computer, and thus develops an interactive way of learning.
