| The book is a thorough presentation of the island with bilingual parallel texts. It includes information on the history of the island, the archaeological sites and findings, the environment, the economy, the architecture, the churches and monasteries as well as numerous photographs. It is also a user's guide for the respective DVD-ROM, including content from the electronic edition. The aim of the series is to offer a structured thesaurus of knowledge about the island that will point out its cultural distinctiveness. "The calm landscape of Paros pops up from the deep Aegean blue. The gentle rolling mountains cascade into the sea. The beaches are endless and give a golden tint to the landscape as they are bathed in the sun. Man's creations are in harmony with the simplicity of the landscape; the churches with blue domes and the traditional windmills. The small stark white houses in Paroikia, Naoussa and Lefkes are decorated with flowers adding beauty to the small slate-paved streets. Behind the scenes, however, a long history unfolds. Traces of this past can be followed at the ancient temples, in the marble quarries, in the old affluent houses, the countless churches and monasteries, the ruins of the castles of Naoussa and Kefalos, in the Hecatontapyliani church… Paros is an island full of contradictions. The old meets the new, the traditional meets the modern. Time never stops in this dance of centuries. Everything is whirled around like in the balos, the local folk dance that is a hymn to the life and beauty of this unique island."
